Rural Economics has been one of the four core subjects of Gujarat Vidyapith from its inception. With increasing urbanisation, the campus of Gujarat Vidyapith has become urban. Although, the department was connected to rural slums and to an extent to some peripheral villages; its continuous contact with villages was gone. Keeping in mind to renew the rural connect, two rural campuses were established in 1977; in Sadra and Randheja, Gandhinagar District. For more details click here

Department of Social Anthropology / Sociology
The Department of Social Anthropology and sociology was established as the department Social Anthropology in 1965 since the focus study of the department was and is on anthropological studies of tribal society of Gujarat which comprises around 15% population in the state. Number of eminent anthropologists like Pro. R.B. Lal, Pro. R. Shroff and Pro. T.B. Naik, have served in the department since its foundation and have enhanced the repertoire of research based knowledge. For more details click here
