Department of Biogas Research and Microbiology is located at Gujarat Vidyapith Campus, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad.
The Gujarat Vidyapith’s education system incorporates regular community activity, social service, communal prayers, simple and self-reliant living, study visits and field studies, hand spinning, and craft work etc. The education programme has been connected to national demands for rural upliftment in order to promote education that is relevant to the grassroots levels of society. The Gujarat Vidyapith’s main goal is to undertake experiments in all disciplines of education in order to enhance Gandhi’s ideas and way of life in all elements of education.
The Microbiology Department was founded in 1993 at its Rural campus Sadara, District- Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The first batch of B.Sc. (Microbiology) students began in the summer of 1995, with seven students. The M.Sc. (Microbiology) programme began in 1999. In 2004, the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes were introduced.

To be the finest in interdisciplinary microbiology teaching, research, and extension and to explore fundamental questions in microbiology and environmental biotechnology, which may then be translated into useful technologies, while also fostering an inclusive learning environment.
The Mission objectives of the department are to carry out research in the field of Microbiology and Biogas technology and popularize it. We shall strive to facilitate teaching and research in the field of Microbial technology and Biogas technology.
A person who specializes in the area of Microbiology is called as Microbiologist. The task of microbiologists involves investigation of the fascinating world of microorganisms or microbes. Due to the advancement in the field of science and technology, the scope of research in the field of microbiology has widened. Career in microbiology can be a lucrative option in India as well as abroad. Bachelor degree holders have employment potential as laboratory technicians, aids to biological scientists or as biology teachers.
Microbiologists find jobs in many places like research and development laboratories of government and private hospitals, research organisations, pharmaceutical, food, beverage and chemical industries. Universities, research institutes and industrial companies employ microbiologists to do basic, environmental, healthcare and agricultural research.
Microbiologists can also become faculty members in Universities, Colleges or teachers in Schools, etc.
