About Us
At present two departments are functioning under the Faculty of Gandhian Studies: Gandhian Studies and Peace Research Centre. The Department of Gandhian Studies was established with the help of UGC in 1968. The goal of establishment of this department is to understand the different dimensions of Gandhian thought, to do research work on it and to provide intellectual basis to the extension activities. From the year 1968 to 2016, M.A. (Correspondence) Course on Gandhian Thought was run. From the year 2016, M.A. Gandhian Studies (Regular) course has been started. From the year 2011, International Course (Diploma): “Gandhian Non-violence: Theory and Application” was launched. So far 78 foreign students from 18 countries have studied in it. In Gandhian studies, the facility for Ph.D is available in the department. Till December, 2022, 18 students have completed Ph.D and 60 students have completed M.Phil from India and abroad in Gandhian Thought. From 2018 onwards, Gandhian Studies has also started five Certificate Course (2 credits) for the students of Gujarat Vidyapith and those who are interested in Gandhian thought. The courses are; Educational Thought of Gandhiji, Modern lifestyle and Gandhian Thought, National Services Scheme and Gandhi Discourse, Fundamental Books of Gandhi, Gandhi and Sustainability. Various memorial lectures are also organized with the collaboration of the Peace Research Centre. These are; Kamalnayan Bajaj Memorial Lecture (started from 1977), Rameshwar Tantiya Memorial Lecture (started from 1982), Late Prof. Ramlalbhai Parikh Birth Anniversary Lecture (from 2001), Prof. Devvrat Narayan Pathak Memorial Lecture (from 2008), Acharya Kripalani Memorial Lecture (from 2014) and Shri Ramkrishna Bajaj Memorial Lecture are included. Ms. Sonia Deotto from Ora World Mandala, Italy has been working with Peace Research Centre on various research projects from the year 2004.
